Mercari Auction Usage Guide
To help you participate more flexibly in item trading, Mercari has officially launched the “Mercari Auction.”
This guide explains how to join an auction, the bidding process, and how to place bids, as well as important points to note.
*Please update your app to the latest version before using this feature.
Auction Process
Step 1: Place a Bid
After finding an item you're interested in, click “Place a Bid” and enter your bid amount.
The auction generally ends at around 8:00 PM (JST) the day after the first bid is placed.
The highest bidder at the end of the auction will be the final buyer (the “winning bidder”).
Example (JST):
-
First bid time: April 20, 2025, 15:30
-
Auction end time: April 21, 2025, 20:30
Note: If a new bid is placed within the last 5 minutes of the auction, the auction's ending time will automatically be extended by 5 minutes.
Important Notes:
-
According to Mercari auction rules, bids cannot be canceled once they have been submitted. Please double-check before placing your bid.
-
Domestic shipping fees vary depending on each seller. They can be either “Seller Pays” or “Cash on Delivery (COD)”
-
For COD items, domestic shipping costs will be charged when the package arrives at Doorzo's warehouse and collected together with the international shipping fee.
-
Please check the product page to confirm whether “Shipping Insurance” is available for that item.
Step 2: Confirm and Authorize Payment
After confirming the price and all item details, check the risk acknowledgment boxes and click Confirm Payment.
Your bid will be processed using credit card pre-authorization.
Credit Card Pre-Authorization
-
Items listed in Mercari Auctions use a credit card pre-authorization payment method.
-
When you place a bid, a temporary hold (pre-authorization) will be placed on your card for the amount of the bid.
-
If you win the auction, the payment (winning bid + auction fee + optional service fees, if any) will be charged to your card.
-
If your bid is outbid or unsuccessful, the pre-authorized amount will automatically be released and refunded to your account.
Auction Fee
The auction fee is included in the pre-authorization and settled together once you win the auction.
Fee Structure:
-
For items under ¥7,000 → ¥200
-
For items between ¥7,000 and ¥10,000 → 3% of item price (min ¥210, max ¥300)
-
For items over ¥10,000 → ¥300
Additional Bidding
If another user outbids you, you can place an additional bid to participate again. When your previous bid is surpassed, the amount on hold will automatically be released. Each new bid will create a new pre-authorization based on the latest bid amount.
Bidding Mechanism
Once you submit your bid, the system will immediately set the current price to your bid amount. Each new bid must be at least ¥100 higher than the current price.
Auction Results
1. Successful Bid (Winning)
If you win, Doorzo's order team will proceed with payment and communication with the seller. When the item arrives at the Doorzo warehouse, you will receive a notification via the app and email, allowing you to choose whether to ship or consolidate your order.
2. Unsuccessful Bid
If you are outbid, Doorzo will send you a push notification. You may place a new bid at any time before the auction ends. If you do not win, the pre-authorized amount will automatically be released and refunded.
3. Canceled Bid or Winning
Due to seller decisions or Mercari's internal system judgments, even successful bids or winning results may occasionally be canceled. In such cases, your order will be automatically canceled, and any held funds will be released and refunded immediate
Important Notes
-
According to Mercari's auction rules, once you win, cancellation or refunds are not allowed unless the seller is at fault. If an order is canceled due to seller or non-buyer reasons, a refund will be processed accordingly.
-
Since most Mercari auction items are pre-owned and sold by individual sellers, Doorzo cannot guarantee item condition. Please carefully check all images and descriptions before bidding. The warehouse will only inspect for apparent shipping damage, but cannot guarantee against issues such as missing parts, wrong items, or incomplete sets. Please bid with awareness of these risks.
-
Shipping times may vary since many Mercari auction sellers are individuals. If the seller delays shipment, Doorzo's order team will follow up and request shipment, but please be patient.
-
After an auction ends, the seller has the right to cancel the sale to the winning bidder. In such cases, the second-highest bidder will automatically become the new winning bidder. When this happens, your order will change to “Won but Unpaid.” Please complete payment within 24 hours. (*If you fail to complete payment twice under these circumstances, your access to Mercari Auctions will be restricted.) Please pay close attention to notifications and participate carefully.

Q: How much is the proxy purchase fee for Mercari orders?
A: Mercari's proxy purchase fee are as follows:
*Single item's purchase price <7000JPY, purchase fee: 200JPY *Single item's purchase price ≥7000JPY, 3% of the order total ( 210JPY Min. and 300JPYMax.) The total price of your order will include the fee calculated according to the above rules, and this will be presented to you before confirming your purchase. Doorzo charges a service fee when placing an order on Mercari for you. However, you can rest assured that a full refund will be issued if your ordered item is sold out or canceled by the system due to reasons on the seller's end, such as an inability to ship.
Q: What are the conditions of items on Mercari?
A: You can assess an item's quality by examining actual photos, reviewing the detailed de- scription, and considering the seller's condition level. If you have any uncertainties, our customer service is available to assist you.
Q: Does successful payment guarantee that I will secure the item? What should I do if the order doesn't go through successfully?
A: We'll process your order as soon as the payment is confirmed, following the sequence in which orders were placed. Please rest assured that a full refund will be issued if your ordered item is sold out or canceled by the system due to reasons on the seller's end, such as an inability to ship.
Q: What should I do if I accidentally purchase the wrong item on Mercari? Can I cancel my order?
A: Unfortunately, orders CANNOT be canceled once payment is made. We recommend double-checking and ensuring the items are correct before placing your order.
Q: Why can't I add certain items to my cart, and why are they labeled as 'Temporarily Unsupported'?
A: Items from sellers with negative reviews or items classified as fragile goods are currently unavailable for ordering.
Q: Can I specify the particular items I want to buy if I don't need everything listed on the product page?
A: If the seller has specified "available for individual sale" on the product description page, you can mention your preferences in the order notes during the checkout process. Clearly state the specific item you wish to buy and whether you'd be willing to cancel the order if that particular item is out of stock. Our order processing team will give special attention to your request. For orders without special notes, the order will be processed according to the default purchase options.
Q: Can Doorzo assure the authenticity of the items?
A: As Mercari only deals in second-hand goods sold by individual sellers, Doorzo cannot provide an absolute guarantee of the authenticity of these items. We kindly request your understanding in this matter. We suggest you carefully evaluate the seller's description of the item's origin, thoroughly examine the details in the photos, and compare the price with genuine products before purchasing.
Q: Can I contact the seller or have Doorzo negotiate with the seller for a better price?
A: Unfortunately, Doorzo does not currently offer this service. Kindly follow the regular order steps. If the seller requests communication before completing a purchase, Doorzo will reach out to the seller as needed. Once a response is received, we will proceed with the purchase.
Q: If the seller hasn't provided all the necessary details, can you assist in checking for specific information and particulars?
A: Please refer to the seller's item images and description on their page. If you are uncertain about the Japanese translation, please feel free to contact customer service for assistance.
Q: How long does it take for sellers on Mercari to ship items, and when can they arrive at Doorzo's warehouse?
A: Shipping times for Mercari sellers vary individually, so there's no specific shipping standard. Typically, sellers complete shipping in approximately 3 to 7 days. We appreciate your patience during the delivery process.
Q: Can I return or exchange items purchased on Mercari?
A: Kindly be aware that items purchased on Mercari are not eligible for returns or ex- changes, and Doorzo cannot offer guarantees for second-hand items. If you have any concerns, we recommend refraining from placing your order.
Q: The item I want to purchase is very popular. Can Doorzo prioritize my order?
A: We process orders in the order they are received. Although we don't offer expedited processing, our team works hard to ensure that every order is placed as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience.
Q: What should I do if a Mercari seller sends me a wrong item or if an item is missing?
A: As Mercari only deals in second-hand goods sold by individual sellers, Doorzo cannot ensure the condition of the items. We appreciate your understanding in this regard. Upon the arrival of Mercari packages at our warehouse, we conduct careful inspections for visible damages caused during domestic shipping. If any issues are identified at this stage, we will handle them directly with the seller. However, we do not offer item inspection service and, therefore, cannot make any commitments or offer solutions in cases of missing or incorrect items. If any missing items are found in our warehouse, they will be sent to you as soon as possible. We kindly request that you consider these potential risks before placing your order.
Automated Ordering System
Operating Principle
Not all items on Mercari can be processed immediately. Multiple communications with the Seller are often needed before agreeing to buy the item.
Our automated ordering system assesses item descriptions, seller profiles, and transaction credibility and utilizes past order data to determine if an item qualifies for automatic purchase.
Items meeting purchase criteria are automatically ordered. For those that don't, manual ordering is needed.
Operating Mode
The automated ordering system supports our daytime manual ordering team, speeding up purchases. If an order can't be processed automatically, it's forwarded for manual handling.
When our manual staff are unavailable in the evening, the system handles order processing automatically. Orders needing manual handling are addressed the following day.
The system may not always accurately determine if an order can be processed directly. We recommend placing orders during manual processing hours (10:00 AM to 7:00 PM JST) for precise and efficient processing.
How to Use
You can place your Mercari orders using standard steps; the system will automatically review and process them.
Important Note
1. Please note that adding messages to your order requires manual assistance for accurate processing.
2. Our ordering team will manually verify items valued at or over 100,000 JPY before purchase to ensure your rights are protected.
3. The automated ordering system may occasionally misjudge an order, leading to potential processing delays. We advise placing orders during our manual order assistants' working hours when feasible. The automated system continues to learn and improve for better service accuracy.
