Sanrio has confirmed that 2026 will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Pompompurin, a well-known character that first appeared in 1996 and has remained a key part of Sanrio’s character line-up. As part of the celebrations, Sanrio released a new song titled Pompompurin Pow, with the official music video premiering on 11 December 2025 at 7:00 pm Japan time on the Sanrio Characters YouTube channel. The release follows the success of the earlier track Purin to Muffin no Pompom Beat, which reached more than 20 million views across YouTube and TikTok after launching in April 2024, highlighting how music can support character storytelling in an accessible and engaging way.
The new song was written and composed by Tamaya 2060%, known for his work with the band Wienners as well as a wide range of commercial projects, including music for artists, idols, and advertising. His involvement reflects Sanrio’s approach to working with creators who can balance originality with broad appeal, ensuring the music feels fresh while remaining easy to enjoy.
To support the anniversary, Sanrio has also launched a dedicated Pompompurin 30th anniversary website. The site serves as a central hub for announcements, visuals, and future updates, and introduces the official anniversary logo and message. The design focuses on a relaxed and playful tone, showing Pompompurin carrying the number 30 in an easygoing way, reinforcing the idea that a long history does not need to feel formal or heavy.
In addition, Pompompurin will be collaborating with different brands to release new merchandise throughout the anniversary year. Fans can look forward to a wide range of new goods designed to celebrate the character’s 30-year journey.
