Japanese brand MAYLA has returned with a new project centred on one of CLAMP’s most enduring works, Cardcaptor Sakura. This collaboration introduces a set of platform trainers, designed around four of Sakura Kinomoto’s iconic outfits from the series.
◆Inspiration from Sakura’s Wardrobe
Cardcaptor Sakura is loved not only for its magical storyline but also for its memorable costume designs. Unlike many other magical girl series, Sakura’s outfits changed frequently, thanks to the designs provided within the story by her friend Tomoyo. Each look carried its own personality, helping to establish Sakura as both a heroine and a style icon in the world of anime.
MAYLA has taken inspiration from these outfits and turned them into footwear that captures the character’s spirit while keeping the brand’s identity. The four models are Rocket Beat, Academic Nocturne, Clear, and Eternal Girly.
◆A Closer Look at the Designs
Each pair includes subtle details that point back to Sakura’s wardrobe. Rocket Beat mirrors the energy of her wind-inspired costume. Academic Nocturne carries a more serious tone, echoing her darker, music-themed look. Clear brings out the purity often tied to Sakura’s later character arcs, while Eternal Girly highlights her playful side.
These shoes are not costumes in themselves. Instead, they blend naturally into a modern wardrobe. Fans can enjoy the nods to Sakura without feeling like they’re dressing up!
◆More Details
MAYLA’s trainers come with removable Ribbon Shoe Pierces, a nod to the brand’s signature bow motif. These can be swapped or taken off, giving wearers flexibility to change their look. Feather-shaped lace locks also add a touch of Sakura’s magical imagery.
The shoes are built with comfort and quality in mind. Thick midsoles make them easy to walk in, while lace and silk overlays add texture and style. Even the insoles carry the collaboration logo, and each pair comes in a custom shoebox that enhances their collectable feel.
◆Collectable or Wearable?
When fashion and anime come together, the result often sits somewhere between a collector’s item and something you can actually wear day to day. These trainers may be limited edition and bound to appeal to collectors, but the design makes it clear they are meant to be worn, not just displayed.
That balance really matters. For many fans, the real joy is being able to weave a little of their favourite series into everyday life. It is not about cosplay or dressing up, but about fashion that feels natural. These shoes give you a way to carry a touch of Cardcaptor Sakura with you, in a way that is stylish, subtle, and easy to make your own.
