In celebration of its 25th anniversary, the 2000 animated feature Cardcaptor Sakura: The Sealed Card will return to Japanese cinemas beginning Friday, 11 July 2025. The re-release includes a screening of the accompanying short film Leave it to Kero!, originally presented alongside the feature during its initial theatrical run.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, a two-phase special giveaway campaign has been confirmed for cinema-goers. Attendees during the first screening week, from 11 to 17 July, will receive one of two B5-sized illustration cards featuring art by CLAMP, the manga artist group behind the franchise. For the second week, starting 18 July, viewers will be eligible to receive one of two limited mini shikishi boards, specially illustrated by the film’s chief animation director, Atsushi Abe.

In addition to the screening and giveaways, exclusive merchandise will be made available at participating cinemas from 11 July.

The theatrical return of The Sealed Card coincides with a broader revival of interest in late 1990s and early 2000s anime properties, many of which are seeing renewed merchandising and limited-time screenings as part of nostalgia-driven marketing. As a cornerstone title of CLAMP’s body of work, Cardcaptor Sakura continues to be recognised for its animation quality, narrative style, and cross-demographic appeal. It has maintained a strong presence across multiple formats, including manga reprints, Blu-ray remasters, mobile games, and collaborative merchandise.

The inclusion of Leave it to Kero! in the screening package further emphasises the studio’s attention to detail and fan service. The short film, although lighthearted and comedic in tone, remains a notable part of the franchise’s canon and is fondly remembered by fans for its humorous character interactions and casual narrative style.
