かつて日本では「手あぶり火鉢」と名付けられた小ぶりな火鉢が広く使われていました。江戸後期京焼の名陶工仁阿弥道八にはこれを猫型にした作品がありますが、「手あぶり猫」は、この猫型火鉢にヒントを得て岩手県の陶芸家本間文江が現代に甦らせたものです。一体一体作家が手づくりで制作し窯で焼いた陶芸作品で、さまざまな猫の表情をリアルに再現したユニークな置物としてだけでなく、付属の炉がついてますので、それを中に入れて、炭と灰を仕込めば手あぶり火鉢、あるいは香炉やアロマテラピーの道具としても使うことができます。 In the past, small braziers named "teaburi hibachi" were widely used in Japan. The famous late-Edo period Kyo-yaki potter Niami Michihachi made a cat-shaped version of these braziers, and the "Teaburi Neko" was inspired by this cat-shaped brazier and revived in the modern age by Iwate Prefecture potter Honma Fumie. Each piece is handmade by the artist and fired in a kiln, and can be used not only as a unique figurine with realistic reproductions of various cat expressions, but also as a brazier, incense burner, or aromatherapy tool by placing the furnace inside and filling it with charcoal and ashes. 足をすっかり中に織り込んだシンプルなフォルムとボリューム感だけで猫さんの魅力のエッセンスをモダンに表現しています。人肌に薄く白粉を塗ったような釉薬の色合いが上品で柔らかな雰囲気を醸しています。
